The Flock & Ang Kawan, the official student publications of Good Shepherd Cathedral School, bagged several awards during the Quezon City Congressional District 5 Schools Press Conference which took place last December 2, 2023 at Lagro Elementary School. On December 9, the staffers attended the awarding of winners at North Fairview High School, where a total of 12 awards were taken home.
GSCS placed 5th among the highest school pointer for the English medium, then ranking 9th for Filipino. The school also received the title as the 9th overall top performing school among 19 schools that participated in this year's presscon, being the first time to place overall since GSCS began actively participating in the press conference last year.
Editors-in-chief of both publications finished off the podium in their respective categories. The Flock's Corinne Angelique Cedo placed 1st in Feature Writing while Ang Kawan's Stephen So finished 2nd in Pagsulat ng Editoryal.
The Associate Editors of the publications also bagged awards, where Joseph Paul Winly Sanusie from The Flock ranked 1st in Editorial Writing and Luisa Adeley Arranz from Ang Kawan placed 8th in Pagsulat ng Balita.
Each staffer who participated in Science Writing category took home awards. Alfonso Luis Ramos ranked 9th in the said category and Jose Gabriel Empleo topped 1st. In the Filipino medium or in Pagsulat ng Agham, Miguel Palaroan placed 2nd.
Despite participating for the first time in the presscon, staffers Manuel Christopher Bonus and Sophia Anne Lebrilla managed to make their names in the rankings of their respective categories. Bonus placed 8th in English Mobile Journalism and Lebrilla ranked 9th in Sports Writing.
GSCS also joined the group competition for the first time under Online Publishing Category. The team consisted of Paul Sanusie, Corinne Cedo, Charley Co, Eljaaelevimae Gallandez, and Christa Yurong.
The school will be advancing to the division level next year, where they may have the chance to join the forthcoming Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) and National Schools Press Conference (NSPC).
